Jonathan obtained his veterinary degree from The Royal School of Veterinary Studies , University of Edinburgh in 2000. Following this he headed across the Atlantic to complete a one year equine surgery and medical internship at the San Luis Rey Equine Hospital, an equine referral hospital in Southern California.
He moved back to the UK to take up a position at the Rainbow Equine Clinic where he worked for approximately three years.
Pursuing his desire to become a surgical specialist he completed a one year large animal clinical fellowship at Oregon State Veterinary Teaching Hospital prior to being accepted into the Equine Surgical Residency at The University of California, Davis William Pritchard Veterinary Teaching Hospital. During his residency he received several awards including an award for the most outstanding resident research project.
Following completion of the three year surgical residency program, Jonathan stayed on at the University of California, Davis, Veterinary Teaching Hospital where he was one of 9 equine surgical clinicians.
As well as being the senior surgical clinician on staff, he was responsible for the training of equine surgical residents and veterinary students in both an academic and practical fashion. He successfully completed the rigorous Equine Surgery Board examinations in February of 2009 making him officially a Boarded Specialist in Equine Surgery and a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He returned to the Rainbow Equine Hospital in September 2009 to join the surgical team in addition to help develop the advanced imaging side of the hospital. His interests are all aspects of equine surgery particularly colic surgery and arthroscopic and laprascopic surgery.
When not in surgery Jonathan is very interested in the use of Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography and nuclear scintigraphy (bone scanning) in advanced lameness investigation. Jonathan has published several articles in peer reviewed journals and has spoken on a wide variety of topics at local, national and international veterinary conferences.
Outside of work Jonathan will be found mountain biking, running or playing squash and is in love with three special girls – Naomi (his wife) , Chloe and Brydie ( his daughters).
